I’ve taught IGCSE Economics for six years and spend a lot of lesson time showing students how the theory connects to things they already see around them. Inflation, exchange rates and market failure are some of my favourite topics. For exam preparation, we work closely with diagrams and data-response questions. I also mark longer answers with the student beside me so they can see exactly where stronger analysis or evaluation is needed.

Hi! I’ve been tutoring IGCSE Economics for around four years, mostly online. My lessons are quite conversational because I find students understand economics better when they can argue about an idea rather than just copy a definition. We might discuss why coffee prices rise before drawing the supply diagram behind it. I’m particularly keen on microeconomics, and I use plenty of past-paper questions once a student is comfortable with the theory.

Before becoming a tutor, I worked in banking and financial analysis, which naturally finds its way into my IGCSE Economics lessons. I enjoy showing students where ideas such as interest rates, unemployment and currency movements appear outside the textbook. Written technique is equally important. I regularly take apart sample answers with students to show the difference between describing an economic effect and properly explaining why it happens.

I started tutoring Economics while I was still at university, so I remember quite clearly which parts of IGCSE can feel unnecessarily complicated at first. Elasticity was one of them! I now teach it using everyday products and simple sketches before bringing in the formal calculations. Lessons usually include a mixture of discussion, diagrams and one or two exam questions. I’m also quite particular about getting definitions accurate without making students memorise whole paragraphs.

My background is in economic research, and I have taught IGCSE Economics privately for eight years. I work particularly closely on structured responses, since many students understand the content but lose marks by making unsupported statements. We practise building an argument from a definition through to analysis and evaluation. Macroeconomic policy is an area I especially enjoy teaching, and I often bring recent economic examples into our discussions.

Economics makes much more sense when you stop treating every chapter as a separate topic. That is something I emphasise with my IGCSE students. We often draw links between taxation, externalities, employment and living standards before attempting questions. I’ve tutored for five years and tend to keep sessions fairly relaxed, although I’m strict about diagrams being labelled properly. Before exams, I use short timed exercises rather than spending the whole lesson on one paper.

"We started Economics tutoring for our daughter because she was finding some of the topics difficult to understand. Her tutor explains everything patiently and gives her plenty of practice. After only a few weeks, we have already noticed that she is more confident in class."
Narelle|Parent of an IGCSE Economics Student
"My Economics tutor has been very supportive and always makes sure the lesson fits what I need to work on. I especially struggled with longer exam questions, but the feedback after each lesson has helped me organise my answers much better."
Charlie|IGCSE Economics Student
"Our son understood most of the Economics content but was losing marks because of his exam technique. His tutor has helped him practise diagrams, explain his reasoning clearly and approach questions more carefully. His recent test results have improved, and he feels much better prepared for his exams."
